Max de BruinIn 1981, Max started working in the sailcloth industry and helped Guus set up Contender. His main involvement now is in the coordination of the production and development of new fabrics. Max occasionally enjoys taking part in Asso 99 races on Lake Garda. Roeland WentholtRoeland combines over 23 years’ experience in sailcloth marketing and development with extensive sailing experience in offshore, dinghy, multihull and One Design keelboat racing. He has taken part in the Fastnet Race four times, the Admirals Cup three times and the One Ton Cup seven times. He started working for Contender US in 1997. Duncan sailed in Olympic and international dinghy classes and went on to be part of the winning America’s Cup team in 1987 and One Ton Cup winner in 1991. He competed on the match race circuit for several years and also took part in the 1995 Admirals Cup. Duncan is now sailing maxi yachts. Greg JarvisGreg has been in the sailing industry for over 25 years and spent 12 years as a sailmaker before joining Contender. He has an excellent understanding of modern sail design and sailmaking techniques and coordinates the U.S.-produced wovens, nylons and laminates. Lisa TracyLisa started her career in the sailcloth industry in 1985. In 1997, Lisa joined Duncan Skinner to start Contender Sailcloth in the U.S. and has been an integral part of the team from day one. As an expert on import/export documentation, Lisa keeps the flow of sailcloth into and from the U.S. on an even keel. She also oversees our hardware range as we build Contender into a full-service provider to sailmakers in North and South America. Sam VineyardSam has a thorough knowledge of both racing and cruising sailboats through being a sailmaker and working in the marine hardware industry for 13 years. He is actively involved in junior sailing programmes. Jan has competed in 14 Sydney-to-Hobart yacht races (with a first, second and third placing) and has represented both the Netherlands and Australia in three Admiral’s Cups. He has been a member of victorious Kenwood and Southern Cross Cup teams in Australia and won the Laser Master World Championship in 2008. Jon Kimberley Jon has worked in the sailcloth industry since 1993 and joined Contender in 2004. He understands the needs of sailmakers and is trained in rigging. Jon runs the operation on a daily basis, concentrating on purchasing, sales and customer service. Heading up Contender UK, Alastair concentrates on technical sales, development and customer support. Ian HenryIan has been involved in the marine industry for over 31 years. Having spent 24 years as a sailmaker Ian turned to the development, manufacture and marketing of hardware for the sailmaking industry. Ian was a keen 505 sailor for most of his sailing days before changing to 1/2 tonners and other big boats. Since then Xavier has sailed more than 80,000 miles on various cruising boats. Xavier crossed the Atlantic during a duo race and is a frequent sailor in the Mediterranean and Grenadines. He participated in 2 consecutive Whitbread Around-the-World races, first as bowman in the1985-86 race on Fazer Finland and than as watch captain in the 1989-90 race on UBF. With his wife, Carmen he runs his company Dismarina which supplies more than 3000 different references for sail and canvas makers.
