Our founder Guus’ passion for sailing started over 65 years ago. Starting in the Flying Dutchman where he was selected to participate in the 1972 Olympics, he also sailed in the Star class, Asso99 and still is sailing the National One Design Pampus class. He won five FD championships, Asso99 ’s Trofeo Gorla and Centomiglia and became a World Champion Master in the Star in Punta Ala, Italy (1999).
After having worked for Howe & Bainbridge for 15 years, Guus started Contender Sailcloth in 1986 and made it, with the help of his team, a very successful company being one of the leaders in the worldwide sailcloth industry.
