Ike grew up sailing on Narragansett Bay since he was born. Starting organized lessons at 8-9 years old in dinghies and moved on to sailing keelboats quickly after. This ranged from One Design classes J24’s, Etchells, Shields as well as the J35 and Mumm 36, primarily doing bow. He was part of the winning team in North American Championships in the Mumm 36, J29 and J35 classes.
Continuing on, Ike has sailed in offshore events such as the Marblehead Halifax Race, Ida Lewis Distance race, Stamford Block Island, Vineyard Race and the New England Solo Twin. Also competing in 12 Newport Bermuda races (and counting) on boats from 47 feet to 94 feet winning the St David Lighthouse Trophy in 1998 on Kodiak as well as first to finish in the St David Division twice and several class victories.
Having worked in the marine industry for more than 30 years, starting at age 18, with a majority of that time as a sailmaker. Based out of Rhode Island Ike had commuted to Asia (Sri Lanka) for many years to assist with hands on sailmaking operations at one of the largest lofts.
